I've kept a diary for almost 20 years now almost day by day. I plan to publish it for my family. And of course you and Jen are in it. Just thought I'd share that.

I'd be interested in knowing how you lost all that weight or found time? That sure is a lot to carry on your shoulders. One bit of advice that has always helped me and I hope it does you to is the saying " This to shall pass". Just take one day at a time.

My dad was in the hospital a month not truly knowing if he'd come out or not I just had to leave it in God's hands. Everything looked pretty bad. His heart keeps producing it's own cholesterol, so he was going in for his 23 stint. Had a heart attack on the table. They got him stabilized and his kidneys shut down. He ended up with Pneumonia. He even told me he'd kill himself if he went on perminant dialysis. Tell me that's not a load to carry. Non of my family would go with me to see him in Virginia because his wife is sometimes a very hard person to tolerate. ( long story there) But
He's home now doing well. At the same time my dad was going through this I worried about my husband. my husband has been off work since St. Patrick's Day when his brother hit him ( both were drunk) with a car on purpose.... for making a pass at his girlfriend. He was life flighted. $7, thousand for that alone. The doctors at Grant Hospital did surgery and put a metal rod through the top bone, a metal plate on the other side of his ankle, and two screws through his ankle. I lost count on that total bill. Plus a 4 day stay in the hospital. We can't get help because he had a good job when it all happened. Now that's messed up too. What good does that do us now? It has been 6 months and his bone hasn't healed. The break is coming back apart. His appointment is in Columbus October 24th and they will probably schedule him for a bone graft. Which means more bills and probably 6 more months off work. I even think of the fact " what if it won't heal, then what?" I have to leave it in God's hands. Take one day at a time. We'll both see the light at the end of the tunnel soon. In the mean time if there's anything I can do to lighten the load I'm here for the asking. Just keep looking up and thinking positive thoughts about it all. Things will start looking better soon. Apes and monkeys not talking is a weak attempt to prove that evolution does not exist. Monkeys whatever kind of monkeys they were, or whatever else they were, probably just evolved into monkeys. The monkeys as we know them today, will never talk... but the monkeys of tomorrow, or the whatevers of tomorrow which will be evolved from the monkeys of today, might learn how to talk for all i care. We can't know that yet."For the bible tells me so" is also a weak form of reasoning.i personally believe in God and don't see belief in evolution in any way as a threat to that belief. I think a very important lesson we all need to learn is that it's ok and even a very positive thing, to doubt. That is what science is all about. People who have set their minds on a certain belief and do not want to accept anything else feel threatened by new theories, with and without flaws. Many Christians think that scientists are out to discredit christianity, the Bible, and the existance of God, but this is usually not the case. Good scientists are simply curious about how the world works and are out to find the truth. Their method of searching for truth is however very different from the method of many religious people ... in fact, its completely the opposite. Instead of taking a theory, or religion, or idea for granted, as truth, scientists who do their job right(obviously there are scientists who aren't very scientific because scientists are people and people aren't perfect) ... examine, come up with an idea, test that idea, DOUBT that this idea is automatically correct, test again, and again, come up with new hypothesis, and eventually come to a conclusion.. and its pretty much still called THEORY.... because good scientists are careful. . . they know, that not everything is always as it seems. science strives to learn .. and science doubts. Doubt is a hard pill for christians to swallow. I know because i grew up in a christian family and also believed at one time that faith is the answer. I do not have anything against christianity or believing in God.. so im not out to attack it, but what worries me is blind acceptance of ANYTHING. Is it not possible that the bible was written by men, (i'll even go as far to say for this example men inspired by God) ... but that these men (Paul, for example) weren't around since the beginning of the earth and mankind, and described their God-inspired version of the creation how they best could, as men who couldn't possibly at that time in history have known anything about evolution? Again here, men aren't perfect and can't know everything. Bad example maybe but im just trying to say that i think people take the bible too literally. 6 days. God is God. I have no problem believing he could have created everything in 6 days... but,eh, man is man, and if God inspired man to write a book about his creation and rules and love, i'm pretty sure he would be smart enough to allow man to write it in a way that man could understand. . . or maybe the bible wasn't inspired by God, and maybe man wrote a book ( several books, letters etc. ) that were inspired by similar beliefs from earlier cultures and mixed with the culture of the day. . . and even if that were the case... you can still believe in God, and christianity is still a pretty good religion. Why put God in a box? the Bible isn't the only text that claims to be the truth and inspired by God. Isn't it possible that man keeps coming up with ways of explaining that which he can't really explain? i know i haven't listed the best examples this time, its because im tired, but i think , if there is a God , and i believe there is, that he is much greater than we tend to think of him. . . through science, we are simply examining the world around us, and trying to be honest with ourselves about the results of our experiments. so far, the scientific method has proven to be pretty damn reliable. that doesnt mean every conclusion is correct... but conclusions of science evolve as , i believe we do too. keep your minds open and don't believe everything you hear or read, whether it be an article in a science magazine or a sermon from a good-hearted preacher... have patience and keep your eyes and mind (and heart) open and realize not everything is as it seems. so far what i have heard, read and seen about the evolution lead me to think it's on the right track , if not a complete truth. i have seen the fossils in a museum, i havent read all of 0rigin of the species, but some of it ( it was pretty boring) ... but i cant say either way yet. but i know when i look around me that life is constantly changing.. and evolving. and i am still learning. it just aggravates me to think that anyone would say it is DEFINATELY not true... just because there is another THEORY (or rather religion which also cannot be proved) which when interpreted in a narrow manner, seems to say the opposite. ITS OK to believe in God and be a christian, as long as you don't let your mind be shut off to possiblities.whats possible is possible. its also ok to believe in evolution, i mean my goodness, there is ALOT of evidence for it. but keep your minds open. allow the truth to be revealed to you... noone knows the whole truth. there is too much of it to learn in a lifetime. . .but its worth a try. but you wont get very far if you become satisfied with the first appealing suggestion.

Man, I wish prayer did do the dishes. Those things, however, have no meaning to me in a spiritual sense, and seem rather random. I think I've seen a ghost, but not the holy ghost. I see God in the people around me, not in a distant heaven. To me, if there is a God, he or she is everything. The natural world, including science is him. Pain, misery, suffering, joy, and peace are all him. For an all-powerful God to exist, he has to allow everything, the good and the bad. Moreover, he wouldn't be able to intervene in a physical sense, only in a way that eases the lonliness and moral ambiguity that can plague us as human beings. God would be our conscience, and therefore a VERY personal God.

In addition, the reason why quoting Bible verse has no effect on me, and many people that believe like me...is because I don't believe that the Bible is the inspired word of god. In addition, I definitely don't believe it is all literally true. Much of it has symbolic value for teaching us how to live our lives, especially the words of Jesus. But I don't believe that Jesus' words are recorded verbatim, exactly as he spoke them.

There WERE different interpretations of the old testament and different denominations even at that time. There were the Saducees, the Pharisees, and many other ees ; )

A professor of mine once told me that the phrase "Historical Fiction" was redundant. All history is a form of fiction. The Gospels, for example, weren't written by the disciples. Several different traditions emerged from those that witnessed Jesus' life first hand. These ORAL tradions were passed down through a couple of generations through families and the different religious groups that popped up after Jesus was crucified. This is why the New Testament was written in Greek. Eventually, those that were educated (those who learned Greek) began to write down the oral histories that were being passed on. This is why some of the Gospels resemble each other, while others have significant differences....especially John, my favorite, because it was produced by a radically different group of early Christians. Other forms of Christianity, like gnosticism, were stomped out because they contradicted the rest of the groups too much. The books that were cannonized into our current Bible, made it in because they didn't contradict each other as much as some books. The early catholic church stomped out all other versions of christianity in this way, by limiting what the common people were allowed to read in the Bible. The books were given the names of disciples because it gave them more credibility.

I know that was a long rant, but those are just some of the reasons why I told consider the bible to be an authoritative text to quote as support in religious arguments. In addition, most of the new testament was heavily influenced by greek philosophy, especially everything written by Saul/Paul. Philosophy and Religion are among the tools that God (if he exists) gave human beings for interpreting the world around us. Science is another one of those ways.

Religious and miraculous explanations for things began to decline in the exact same proportion to the rise of science in Western culture. No one says that a car runs on magic...but if you didn't know scientifically how it worked, you might.

I simply believe that whatever the status of God's existence, human beings are responsible for whatever we do with this world. Prayer is great, but it don't do the dishes...(although I tried it when I was a kid)

Cindy,I appreciate your comments, but to be honest...

Cindy,

I appreciate your comments, but to be honest, I quit reading them towards the end, because I choose not to be preached at.

Yes, I am an atheist. It is something I have been expounding on lately, and I thoroughly appreciate anyone who can intelligently converse about religion without getting confrontational!

Take care.

Nick,Glad to hear things went well.
